491 Visa

The skilled work (regional provisional) subclass 491 visa is a five year visa which after 3 years may be converted to the 191 permanent visa. In order to do this, it is important to demonstrate that the visa holder has been earning a minimum threshold salary of $53,900 per year for any 3 of the 5 years. It is a points based visa and depends upon different states occupation lists to apply. Each state has not only its own list, but its own requirements to be eligible. There are more points available for this visa as it is a means of populating the regional areas that need to increase their population and likewise their economic output.

191Visa

The permanent residence (skilled regional) subclass 191 visa provides permanent residence to those who have held the 491 skilled work (regional provisional) visa for 3 years and can demonstrate receiving a salary of $53,900 in this time period.  In addition it is the next step for those who have held the 494 visa for 3 years whilst earning $53,900 per year.  This visa will commence 16 November 2022.

494Visa

The Skills Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) subclass 494 visa allows employers to sponsor in areas of high demand where they are unable to access workers locally to fulfill these positions.  It is a temporary visa for 5 years which after 3 years can be converted to permanent residence through the 191 visa providing the visa holder can demonstrate that they have been paid the required threshold salary of $53,900 for this time period.
