Great news – 482 Visa Holders
Good news that the Dept of Home Affairs has informed us that by the middle of this year regulations will be in place to allow all 482 holders, regardless of what occupation list they have their visa granted from, to apply for PR after 3 years of holding the 482 visa with the same company. If the visa holder’s visa will expire before these regulations come into effect, they are advised to apply for the COVID stream 408 visa. This means that this visa is still also likely to be in effect until at least July this year.
Full reopening of Australian borders

The Prime Minister has announced this week that Australia’s borders will be fully reopened on 21 February 2022 to all double vaccinated travellers, business people and visitors. Those who are not vaccinated will be required to apply for a travel entry exemption and undertake quarantine if granted permission to enter the country.

Working Holiday Makers – 6 month work limitation relaxed
21 January, 2022
The Treasurer and the Minister also announced that the 6 month limitation on working for the same employer or organization has been lifted for WHM also effective from 19 January until 31 December 2022.
– WHM will not need to request permission to extend this employment.
– WHM visa holders must meet Australia’s vaccination requirements or have an approved travel exemption.

Fortress Australia needs to open its doors to international students

Whilst the two main political parties bicker over how many Australians should have already come into the country and how to prioritise numbers, one of the country’s most important export industries is being left to languish and potentially perish leaving much unemployment and lost opportunities in its wake.
International education is at breaking point and we need a national approach to temporary and permanent immigration to prevent this $40 billion industry from falling over.
Wings clipped: Overseas student applications ‘nosedive’

Applications by foreign citizens to study in Australia have collapsed by more than 80 per cent since March, with the number of international students expected to be half its pre-pandemic total by mid next year.
There are already about 210,000 fewer international students in Australia than would have been expected before Australia shut its borders on March 20 in response to spiralling COVID-19 case numbers, Department of Home Affairs data shows.

Back in the beginning of April, as the COVID-19 pandemic impacted Australia, the blunt message from Prime Minister Scott Morrison to international students was “it’s time to go home”. Fast forward to July and the federal government has announced that the return of international students is no longer conditional upon state borders being open – and it appears that recent lockdowns in Melbourne and the border closure between Victoria and NSW will not affect the decision. This is a clear indication that the federal government has realised the full economic impact of the lack of international students coming into Australia since COVID-19 first hit the headlines.
